iZombieAdaptation
I like most teenagers am always in a process of looking for a new show to binge watch on Netflix. One of the days I was scrolling down the shows and saw iZombie. I always read the description of the show before starting to watch it and this one said: “Once a doctor on the fast track, Liv Moore is now a zombie turned crime-solver who gets insights from eating brains of murder victims”. Right away I knew I had to watch it, it includes two of my favorite genres hospital themed shows and detective shows. I was not wrong once I started watching it I couldn’t stop, iZombie is that good. I think this is a great and entertaining show for the viewers my age, it has everything in it, the drama, the love, the humor, and the action. The show consists of four seasons that have 13 to 19 episodes each, there will be another season the fifth one sometime in 2019. In my work, I’m focusing on the fourth which is the last season so far. The writer and director of iZombie is Robert James Thomas, who is an American author, producer, director and screenwriter. The whole show takes place in Seattle, Washington but is filmed in Vancouver, Canada. In the fourth season, the whole city of Seattle gets the zombie virus which then leads to panic and people starving because as a zombie the only food you can eat is the human brain and the city ran out of brains very fast. I wouldn't say that the show is dark in anyway but it does look at some social anxieties in modern society. The main one is obviously the zombie apocalypses which can also be taken as a virus that has no cure, people are scared to get it. This show also looks at the idea of drugs been very dangerous. In the first season, the party that happened on the boat turned into a murder scene. The main character Olivia ( Liv) Moore survives the boat party but gets the zombie virus through a bite from Blain that latter in the show makes his own brain business and is considered the bad guy. The zombie virus can either be given by sexual contact, the blood, a bite, a scratch or the new drug Utopium mixed with something. Everyone at the boat party got the virus either from a bite or the drug. I really like the show for the balance of humor and action in it. In my adaptation, I wouldn’t want to emulate anything from the show I would like to keep all of the good in. This is my favorite show, I have watched it a few times and I did not get bored of it. As I already said I really like the balance of comedy and drama in the show. I would not want to change it because I think the humor is what makes iZombie so entertaining. It is very fitting into modern society because it takes place in our time and in the city, everyone knows. However, in my adaptation, I'm thinking about changing the setting of the show to the one that is more familiar for me, so somewhere in Maine. This change will make my adaptation more fitting for people that live in the area and I know the nature and the cities here so I could tell this story in my own style. I am also thinking about changing the time period so my story could be a throwback to the time in the past when the same apocalypses happened and the people in that time found the cure. After that bring the story back to our time but in Maine where the main characters will use the history about the past events, to finally find a cure. Changing the characters is not in my plans because I like all of the once in the show and I feel like I know them because I have watched this show so many times. I think if I add another conflict to the story it will just be too much information for a short story and it will be a bit overwhelming. I hope that my adaptation that I’m about to start will be interesting and a bit different because I will be bringing it back in time and then back to the present. The message is to show cultural fears in this particular story, the zombie virus fear. I want to leave the reader wondering if it is possible to happen in the real world and that if it is there is always a way to fix things. |
